Privacy Policy

Last updated April 22, 2026

JournalRadar is built to be local-first. Most data stays on your device unless you choose to sign in. This policy explains what we collect, where it lives, and how you can delete it.

Data We Collect

We collect only what is needed to run the service and optional sync.

  • Local data stored on your device: selected sources, topics, reading status, notes, and bookmarks. This is stored in localStorage and IndexedDB.
  • Account data when you sign in: your email (managed by Supabase Auth), selected categories and sources, topics, saved AI summary history, and bookmarks.
  • AI feature request data when you generate a brief or ask a follow-up question: topic names, keywords, selected filters, matched paper metadata, abstract or summary snippets, and the question you submit.
  • Optional usage analytics: aggregate, privacy-focused metrics to understand page performance and usage trends when analytics is enabled for your visit.

How We Use Data

  • Provide the core experience and save your preferences.
  • Sync preferences, topics, saved AI summaries, and bookmarks across devices when you sign in.
  • Generate AI summaries and follow-up answers from the topic setup and matched research evidence you ask us to process.
  • Improve performance and usability through aggregate analytics.

Lawful Bases

  • Contract or steps at your request before a contract: to provide the features you ask us to provide, such as account sign-in, sync, AI summary generation, AI brief Q&A, and saved AI summary history.
  • Legitimate interests: to secure the service, prevent misuse, maintain the product, and operate core administration around the service.
  • Consent: for optional analytics and any optional storage or processing where we ask for your permission.
  • Legal obligation: where we need to retain or disclose limited information to comply with applicable law.

Where Data Is Stored

  • Local-only mode: data stays in your browser storage on this device.
  • Signed-in mode: preferences, topics, and bookmarks are stored in Supabase, linked to your account.
  • When you use AI summaries or brief Q&A, the request payload is processed through OpenAI to generate the response you asked for.

AI Summaries And Brief Q&A

AI summaries and follow-up answers are generated only when you ask for them. To produce that output, we may send your topic setup, selected filters, matched research metadata, and available abstract or summary text to OpenAI.

These outputs are intended to help with research scanning and do not make legal, employment, credit, insurance, or other similarly significant decisions about you.

Sharing And Processors

We use service providers to operate the product.

  • Supabase for authentication and database storage.
  • OpenAI for AI summary generation and brief follow-up answers.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics or a comparable privacy-focused analytics provider when optional analytics is enabled.

We do not sell personal data and do not run advertising trackers.

Retention

  • Local data remains on your device until you clear it.
  • Account data is retained until you delete your account.
  • Where service providers hold backup copies or operational logs, deletion may take additional time within their normal retention cycles.
  • AI providers and infrastructure providers may keep limited security or abuse-monitoring logs for their own retention windows.

International Transfers

Some of our service providers may process personal data outside the UK. Where that happens, we expect them to provide appropriate safeguards required by applicable data protection law.

Your Rights And Choices

  • Clear local data anytime from the Account page.
  • Delete your account and synced data from the Account page.
  • Reopen privacy settings anytime from the footer to review your analytics choice.
  • Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or port personal data we hold about you.
  • Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time for future processing.

Complaints

If you have a privacy concern, contact us first at contact@journalradar.com. If you are in the UK and remain unhappy, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
